BURSITIS
Welcome to Keep it Kinetic Chiropractic, where your musculoskeletal health takes precedence. In this exploration, we focus on the often-painful condition of bursitis—an inflammation of the bursae, small fluid-filled sacs that cushion and reduce friction between bones, tendons, and muscles. Understanding the nuances of bursitis, its causes, and the comprehensive chiropractic approach we offer at Keep it Kinetic will guide you toward comfort, flexibility, and an improved quality of life.
Understanding Bursitis:
Bursitis occurs when the bursae become inflamed due to repetitive movements, overuse, trauma, or underlying medical conditions. These sacs, which are crucial for smooth joint function, can become irritated and swollen, resulting in pain, tenderness, and limited range of motion in the affected area.
Common Causes of Bursitis:
Shoulder Bursitis: Also known as subacromial bursitis, this condition often stems from repetitive overhead arm movements, such as those involved in sports or certain occupations.
Elbow Bursitis (Olecranon Bursitis): Caused by pressure or trauma to the elbow, this type of bursitis can result in pain, swelling, and limited elbow movement.
Hip Bursitis (Trochanteric Bursitis): Repetitive activities like running or prolonged periods of sitting can lead to inflammation of the bursae around the hip, causing pain and discomfort.
Knee Bursitis (Prepatellar or Infrapatellar Bursitis): Frequent kneeling or direct trauma to the knee can cause inflammation of the bursae, resulting in localized pain and swelling.
Recognizing Symptoms:
Identifying the early signs of bursitis is crucial for prompt intervention and effective treatment:
Localized Pain: Persistent pain and tenderness in the affected area, often worsening with movement or pressure, may indicate bursitis.
Swelling: Inflammation of the bursae can lead to localized swelling, visible or palpable in the affected joint or area.
Limited Range of Motion: Bursitis can cause stiffness and restricted movement in the associated joint, impacting daily activities.
