TMJ
Welcome to Keep it Kinetic Chiropractic, where your musculoskeletal well-being takes center stage. In this exploration, we delve into the intricate realm of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) discomfort. Understanding the complexities of TMJ issues, their causes, and the comprehensive chiropractic approach we offer at Keep it Kinetic will guide you toward relief, harmony, and optimal jaw function.
Understanding TMJ Discomfort:
The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is a hinge connecting your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull, facilitating essential jaw movements for speaking, chewing, and swallowing. TMJ discomfort can manifest in various ways, affecting both the jaw joint and the muscles surrounding it.
Common Causes of TMJ:
Bruxism (Teeth Grinding or Clenching): Habitual grinding or clenching of the teeth, often exacerbated by stress, can lead to TMJ discomfort.
Misalignment of the Jaw: An imbalance in the jaw joint or a misaligned bite can contribute to TMJ issues, causing pain and limited jaw mobility.
Arthritis: Inflammatory conditions affecting the TMJ, such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, can lead to discomfort and stiffness.
Trauma or Injury: Direct trauma to the jaw or face, as well as injuries impacting the TMJ, can result in persistent discomfort.
Recognizing Symptoms:
Identifying the early signs of TMJ discomfort is crucial for timely intervention and effective treatment:
Jaw Pain: Persistent pain or tenderness in the jaw joint, especially during chewing or speaking, may indicate TMJ issues.
Clicking or Popping Sounds: Audible sounds during jaw movement, such as clicking or popping, can be indicative of TMJ dysfunction.
Locking or Limited Jaw Movement: Difficulty in fully opening or closing the mouth may suggest TMJ-related problems.
